Kubota Attachment Rental Costs: Buckets, Augers, Breakers

If you're renting a Kubota mini excavator or compact track loader for a job in Delta, the machine itself is only half the equation. The attachment determines whether you finish in a weekend or fight the ground for a week. Here's what each common attachment actually costs, what it's good for, and where people in Ladner, Tsawwassen and Surrey tend to get it wrong.

Prices below reflect typical daily and weekly rates in the Lower Mainland for 2024–2025. They're ranges, not quotes — final pricing depends on the carrier (a KX040 takes different attachments than a U25), insurance, and how long you keep it.

Buckets: The Default Attachment

Every mini excavator or skid steer rental comes with a standard bucket. What people forget is that the wrong bucket size can double your job time.

Digging buckets (12", 18", 24", 36")

• Included with most Kubota rental delta packages — usually one standard bucket (18" on a U25, 24" on a KX040)
• Additional bucket swap: $25–$50/day, $75–$150/week
• Best for: trenching (12"–18"), general excavation (24"), backfill and bulk dig (36")

If you're trenching for drainage along a Tsawwassen property line, a 12" bucket gets you a clean, narrow cut. If you're pulling out a stump pad in Ladner clay, the 36" gives you volume but eats more hydraulic power.

Grading and ditching buckets

• Rate: $40–$75/day, $150–$250/week
• Width: typically 48"–60", no teeth
• Best for: finish grading, cleaning ditches, levelling driveways

These are underused by homeowners and overused by everyone else. If you've already done the rough dig with a toothed bucket, a smooth grading bucket finishes the surface in a single pass.

Skid steer buckets (for SVL75 and similar)

• Standard dirt bucket: usually included
• 4-in-1 bucket: $75–$125/day, $300–$450/week

The 4-in-1 is worth it if you're doing demolition cleanup or material handling — it grabs, dumps, dozes and levels with one attachment.

Augers: When You're Drilling Posts or Footings

Auger drives mount to either an excavator boom or a skid steer loader arm. Around Delta, the most common use is fence posts, deck footings, and the occasional small tree planting job.

• Includes: hydraulic drive head, hoses, one bit

Auger bits (sold or rented separately)

A note on Delta soil: Ladner and parts of Tsawwassen sit on heavy marine clay with occasional cobble. Standard earth augers struggle when they hit rock. If you know there's fill or old aggregate on the site, ask about a rock-tipped auger — it costs roughly 30% more but saves you from snapping a flight.

Hydraulic Breakers: When Concrete or Rock Is in the Way

Breakers (hydraulic hammers) are the most expensive attachment in the lineup, and they're priced that way because they take a beating and the operator pays for the wear.

Mini excavator breakers

• Small breaker (for KX40/U25 class): $200–$300/day, $700–$1,100/week
• Mid breaker (KX040/KX057 class): $275–$400/day, $900–$1,400/week

What they're rated for

• Breaking up residential concrete pads (4"–6" thick) — small breaker is fine
• Driveway slabs with rebar — mid breaker, plan on slower progress
• Boulders or rock outcrop — mid breaker minimum

The math people miss: a breaker rental plus the machine often runs $600–$800 for a single day. If you only have a 10' x 10' patio slab to remove, a concrete saw and a sledgehammer crew may cost less. Breakers earn their rate on jobs over roughly 200 square feet of slab, or anything with a foundation footing involved.

Practical Tips Before You Book

• Confirm coupler type. Kubota machines run pin-on, quick-hitch, or hydraulic thumb setups. An attachment that fits a U25 won't always fit a KX040 without an adapter.
• Match hydraulic flow. Augers and breakers need auxiliary hydraulics. Most Kubota rental delta units are pre-plumbed, but verify before you load up.
• Ask about transport. Attachments add weight. If you're towing a U25 plus a breaker on a 7,000 lb trailer, you may be over your tow rating with a half-ton truck.
• Bundle the rate. Most yards will discount the attachment 10–20% when it's rented with the machine for the same period.

Getting the Right Combination

The cheapest rental isn't the one with the lowest day rate — it's the one that finishes the job in the time you planned. A $40/day grading bucket can save you a second day of machine rental, which more than pays for itself.
